Until the end of October, the MSC Group will deliver seawater cleaning units for cooling of the bearings of the main circulating pumps used in the RITM-200 reactors of 22220 icebreakers. The need for filtering was found only at the final stage of construction; but the Russian manufacturer provided the solution.

“These are unique installations. They were created specifically for use on the icebreakers of the project 22220”, - told Nikita Maximov, Project Lead of MSC. He added that the company managed to develop and manufacture equipment in record time - in just four months.

In October, Baltic Shipyard will receive equipment for the "Arktika" icebreaker. In the future, similar units will arrive at the shipyard for serial ships "Sibir" and "Ural".

The installation consists of two modules, each of which includes a complete work path. The equipment can operate in two modes: with one working circuit, thus providing 100% redundancy, or with two working circuits in case of a need for improved performance.

"Our specialists have developed a full set of designa and working documentation as well as software. Assembling installations is carried out in our production. Foreign manufacturers, as a rule, make a certain range without adapting to the project of an individual customer. Performing non-standard and technically complex projects is our strength" - explained Maximov.

Nuclear-powered icebreakers of the project 22220 with capacity of 60 MW have been built at the Baltic Shipyardin St. Petersburg since 2012. The lead ship, the Arktika, was laid in 2013 and launched in 2016. The Sibir and Ural icebreakers were laid in 2015 and 2016, respectively. Sibir was launched in 2017. Icebreakers are designed to guide caravans along the Northern Sea Route and expeditionary activities in the Arctic. Variable sediment will allow them to work in heavy ice conditions in the sea, and in the mouths of Siberian rivers.

The icebreakers of project 22220 uses power plant with two RITM-200 reactors. Around the casing of each of the reactors are four main circular pumps. These are bladed single-stage pumps with hermetic asynchronous electric motors. They circulate the coolant circuit of the reactor.

MSC Group is engaged in the production and supply of equipment for shipbuilding and ship repair plants in Russia. The company cooperates with all major shipyards in the country, including the Baltic Shipyard, the Admiralty Shipyards etc.
